John Barrett is a Managing Director with the Executive Search division of Cook Associates Inc., and is based in the firm’s Boston office. He is an expert in digital media, mobile services, financial technology, marketing services and business services. John’s clients include numerous private equity and venture-backed portfolio companies as well as high-growth Fortune 1000 companies, and he recruits at senior levels including CxO and functional Vice Presidents.

Prior to joining Cook Associates, Inc., John served as a Managing Director with Conley & Company where he focused on business services, consumer and online media with additional expertise in technology-enabled services. Previously, John began his recruiting career with Russell Reynolds Associates where he led Russell Reynolds Associates’ North American Financial Technology Practice and was a member of the firm's global Financial Services and Technology Practices.

Before becoming an executive recruiter, John had over 10 years of experience in marketing, sales and corporate strategy. He was Vice President, Marketing for Citi f/i (financial interactive), an ambitious Internet start-up for the Global Consumer Bank at Citigroup. Prior to his role as Vice President, Marketing, he served as Vice President, Strategic Planning. During his tenure at Citi f/i, John developed customer acquisition campaigns, go-to-market strategies and numerous channel partnerships. He was recruited to Citigroup by a former client. Previously, John was with Mars & Co, an international strategy consulting firm, as a consultant advising global clients such as Pepsi, General Motors, Guinness, Sara Lee, Transamerica, Christie’s auction house and Bausch & Lomb. John began his career with ICI Americas, the U.S. subsidiary of the British chemicals conglomerate, where he helped launch and co-directed sales and marketing for a suite of products serving the emerging digital imaging market.

John received his BS degree, magna cum laude, in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and his MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College. As an undergraduate, he won the most prestigious national scholar award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers: the Old Guard prize. He is currently an elected member of the Tufts Alumni Council and active with the Center for Private Equity & Entrepreneurship at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
